This event was held at Ikano Power Centre on the 17th and 18th of June 2006 and organized by Tamiya Underground. At the event was the Tamiya Asia Cup Qualifying Series where RC cars race each other for a chance to represent the country at the regional level competition. The event was action packed with races in every five minutes and the races were quite exciting as well with lots of overtaking and crashing.
Also at the event was the SFTPMS (Selangor and Federal Territory Plastic Modeling Society) where members showcase they completed models. You can see some amazing models on display including a remote controlled tank that imitates real tank sound when it moves around and it can fires it canon and machine guns, too. There were also workshops on how to build models, how to build dioramas, and airbrushing.
If you’re into these sorts of things and you missed this one then you’re in luck because they will be at Ikano Power Centre again next weekends (24th and 25th of June 2006). Do drop by and have a look for yourself.
These are some pictures taken at the event. All pictures where taken with the Fujifilm Finepix S9500.

It was a busy day for me. I was in Mid Valley Megamall in the morning taking pictures of entries of the Gundam Seed Destiny modeling competition. By afternoon, I found myself in City Square and this time to take pictures of entries of another modeling contest. This time around the subject is model plane, the FA-18 Hornet and the MiG-29 Fulcrum to be exact.
The contest was held on the 10th of June 2006 at City Square and was organized by the Selangor and Federal Territory Plastic Modeling Society (SFTPMS).
Some of the entries were really amazing and the detailing was just breathtaking. I always thought that building model airplane was easy but not anymore. It really requires a lot of skill, patient, and attention to details. Kudos to all the participants and congratulation to all the winners.

A Gundam model kit competition was held at Mid Valley Megamall from 31 May 2006 to 11 June 2006. The theme of the competition was Gundam Seed Destiny, which means all kits that took part had to be from the Gundam Seed Destiny series. The competition was organized by Litt Tak Sdn. Bhd., the local distributor for Bandai.
The turn out at the competition was not bad although I was expecting/hoping for more entries. Some kits are really great and show tremendous creativity in term of details and color scheme.
One kit that attracted most of the attention was the perfect grade Freedom, yeah, you heard me right, perfect grade Freedom. This kit is huge and is the biggest among all the other kits. Another kit worth mentioning is called The Last Gate. This kit is for display only and did not take part in the competition as it is not from the Gundam Seed Destiny series. This kit however, was the champion at BAKAC (Bandai Action Kits Asia Competition) 2005.
Below are some of the kits that took part in the competition.

The Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show 2006 was held from 26th May to 4th June 2006 in where else but Kuala Lumpur. According to the organizer, this year show is both bigger and better than any previous shows so far. This claim is only half true as it might be bigger than the previous shows, it is certainly not any better and with the previous one being a let down, only make things worst.
To begin with, most of the cars on display are models that you can see on the street on a daily basis. So the question now is why pay to see things that you can see for free?
Secondly, a lot of manufactures did not bother to take part in the show. Maybe they think the Malaysian market is too small to warrant for the expenses incurred for taking part but anyhow, it still does not reflects too good on the organizer. Some of the manufacturers that did not turn up include Subaru, Audi, BMW, Ferrari, Lamborgini, Porsche, Alfa Romeo, Citroen, Fiat, Jaguar, Land Rover, Bentley, and Rolls-Royce just to name a few. If they want to, I’m sure they can simply bring a few cars over from their showrooms all over the city. Again, this reflects poorly on the organizer and the show.
Although there were some super cars like the Ferrari Enzo and Porsche Carrera GT, they were brought to the show by a local car dealer and not the manufacturer themselves. These cars were also barricaded from the public (or the public barricaded from the car) and you can only look at them from a distant. You can’t even tell what is the color of the seats. Where is the fun?
Like the previous show, the best of show honor has to goes to Toyota. Not only did it bring a few concept cars, it also organizes dance performances. Honda is also doing pretty well with it’s own concept cars. These are the things that we want to see in a motor show.
Overall I think the show lacks the ‘Wow’ factor and is a big let down. I think the people who benefited most from the show are those who are in the process of buying a new car but can’t quite make up their mind between, lets say, a Honda Civic, a Nissan Sentra, or a Ford Focus. At the show, they can try out all these cars without having to go to different showrooms scattered all over. Usually manufacturers uses motor shows to show off their up and coming models as well as concept cars to show what they are capable of doing. Sadly we don’t see that here in KLIMS. Instead of calling it the ‘Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show’, maybe the organizer should changed the name to ‘Kuala Lumpur One-Stop Car Showroom’.
Below are some of the pictures taken at the show. Since there were not that many interesting cars, most pictures are of the female promoters. Enjoy.
